Why Migration Matters: A Hostile Terrain 94 Panel Discussion

Why Migration Matters: A Hostile Terrain 94 Panel Discussion

Please join Cook Library and TU faculty, students and staff for a discussion of the exhibit Hostile Terrain 94. Hostile Terrain 94 is an interactive exhibit that brings issues around immigration, U.S. policy and the lives of migrants into conversation and dialogue. This visceral exhibit is not live yet due to the pandemic so a variety of programming has been created to bring these conversations and programming into a virtual environment.

This panel discussion will use the exhibit to prompt conversations in a number of areas:

  • Nicole Smith from the Undocumented Migrant Project will provide an overview of the Hostile Terrain 94 exhibit
  • Dr. Nicole Fabricant (Anthropology) will provide context for the book Land of Open Graves by MacArthur Genius Award Winner and author Jason DeLeon, Luis Sierra (Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility will discuss how these issues connect to the 2020 national election
  • Vanessa Gonzalez-Wright (Center for Student Diversity) will discuss programming and activities for Latinx students at Towson University
  • Sydney Avelino will discuss the impact of the exhibit for the TU student body. The panel will consist of brief presentations with a Q&A at the end. Both the TU community and our external partners are welcome to attend.

Participants must register to attend this event by noon on Wed. 10/14 and a Zoom link will be sent to registrants the day before the event.
